Relief during illness

Relief during illness

Receiving a diagnosis of a serious illness can be alarming and upsetting, it puts life into sharp perspective. We do our best to take in the consequences of our changing health and how this may impact our overall feeling of wellbeing. Going through life with an illness is something many people face whether due to genetics or infection or injury.

We all know someone experiencing illnesses such as cancer, M.S. (multiple sclerosis) and M.E. (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue). Many of us are prone to depression and anxiety, while others are managing conditions such as diabetes and fibromyalgia. Dealing with illness challenges us in unexpected ways, things that used to be little annoyances become more stressful when suffering from prolonged lack of sleep or pain. Patience can wear thin as simple tasks take longer than they used to or we encounter people who don’t understand that we are under more pressure to keep up.

Advancements in medical research, technology, drugs and surgery are impressive. It’s comforting to know that there are medical solutions that can reduce pain and in many cases the threat to life itself. However, in order to be able to manage any illness successfully, body and mind need to be working in unison in order to maintain optimum conditions for the functioning of your whole self.

Finding Relief with Reflexology

It may seem like there is a gigantic mountain to be climbed when an illness has taken hold but the good news is there are many things you can do to restore calm and balance. Meditation, gentle exercise and good nutrition, along with relaxing therapies, are essential to any wellbeing plan. While there are many therapies that offer relaxation, reflexology offers additional benefits as it has been shown to bring balance to body systems, relieving tension and improving circulation, leading to deep relaxation which help to improve sleep, mood and ability to cope with everyday tasks.

During reflexology treatment, I apply specific types of pressure to reflex points on the feet, which correspond with body organs and systems. You only need to remove your shoes and socks to receive the treatment which allows for more comfort

Choosing Authentic Reflexology

When you choose ‘Authentic Reflexology’ you have the benefit of my 20+ years’ experience of developing personalised and effective self-care strategies, which I share with my clients. Prior to becoming a wellbeing practitioner and coach, I worked in science and education. I had been struggling for years with physical pain, cycles of depression and anxiety and eventually ‘burn-out’.

I had to learn how to mind my health and wellbeing. At that time, it was not so clear what I needed to do but eventually I made good discoveries. Through commitment to self-care, I freed myself from many of these discomforts and managed to live a more fulfilling life by helping others in their wellbeing.

While I trained initially in reiki energy healing, reflexology is my specialist therapy as I have found it great for relieving tension and restoring balance to mind and body.
