The Irish countryside is beautiful but travel that makes you appreciate your homeland even more. I returned from trip in India, inspired to paint the inspiration I had found there. When I completed the Indian Heart Way collection, I turned my focus to the Carlow landscape.
"Exhibiting my art work provides an opportunity for people to give expression to their thoughts and feelings. This is why I create."
Caroline Cunningham, Artist
I grew up in a rural part of Ireland, an area rich in agriculture with a strong allegiance to Gaelic sporting traditions. In all that time, I don’t recall hearing people expressing their sentiments about our beautiful landscape. Exhibiting my art work provides an opportunit for people to give expression to their thoughts and feelings. This is why I create.
My Carlow landscapes express my own energetic response to those views of Carlow as seen from Mount Leinsters Nine Stones area. Those paintings formed the ‘Into the Heart Land’ collection.
I continued to paint views of Mount Leinster and surrounding hills as seen from the environs of my local village.
Rathvilly after the Rain was created much earlier on when I was experimenting for the first time with oil paints. The year was 1999. I had never used oils or even acrylics before. I was swiftly changing careers and embarking on much needed healing at that time, to get my head and finances into a better place. It took a number of years of work and study before I could commit once more to painting.

Through my art and writing I share stories and inspiration for transformation, healing and dreams turning to reality. When you visit my gallery you glimpse my journey, my authentic path. It took a ‘Break True’ moment to point me towards developing my artistic talents. It’s never too late to make a new start. I’ve achieved a lot in a relatively short time. My work has been presented in New York as part of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, has been displayed on county Post Office and has been show-cased on National TV. Read more about my art journey here.
