Your Authentic Style could be your Business Catalyst.

Develop Confidence & Skills for Networking & Marketing your Business with Authenticity.

I have a story to share about how I started as a solopreneur simply wanting to be my own boss, using my creative and healing talents to improve life for others. I knew nothing about marketing at that time but I could see very clearly that it was essential for my business.

Like or not, I would have to learn and I would need to get used to putting myself out there. This was the only way my business plans were going to work. I certainly could not afford to employ someone to do the marketing for me but I did avail of some on-line courses and I kept up to date by reading articles on the latest trends in social media.

The digital world was, and still is, changing rapidly, so learning has been a constant feature of my work, alongside creating artwork, writing books and providing reflexology treatments and all the additional nuts and bolts of growing and maintaining a business.

"Some people might say I am just lucky, that such opportunities come my way. I can say for sure, these opportunities are not accidental. I make my own luck. Luck comes while I am busy preparing for its arrival."

What helped me most was an attitude that I had been cultivating through 20 years of study in the creative and holistic field. With an attitude of positivity, curiosity and taking action I was able to take on the tasks of learning and applying the knowledge I was acquiring. My vocal studies instilled the importance of being authentic and allowing my passion for what I love to be more evident. Being authentic meant I had to be more definite in my actions and words. This too has made a huge difference, not only to the work I produce, but to the results I achieve in my use of marketing and business networking.

Over the last two years especially, I’ve become more strategic in my use of marketing. I write blog articles and create content for social media. I create schedules for posting my social media content.

Networking on and off-line is also important, so I attend regular network events and seek opportunities to speak on radio or TV, and to feature in magazines and local press. Sometimes these opportunities are presented to me without active seeking and I’ve been blessed too with offers from fellow bloggers to review my work. Opportunities that have come about as result of these continued efforts.

By using twitter to promote my first ever book of poetry (self-published), I made a connection with Nordic author and digital communications specialist Maria Lehtman. Maria purchased my book of poetry and sent me a lovely review.. Maria also loves nature and has many interests and talents which include, photography, writing, healing and digital marketing.

Nine months later, Maria invited me to be featured in her book entitled The Dreaming Doors. This was an exciting collaboration. Maria and I have never met in person, we completed our project entirely through digital channels. The Dreaming Doors was published in June 2018. In October of 2018, Maria contacted me again, this time to purchase one of my tree paintings entitled The In Between. I was very proud to be sending a piece of my artwork to Finland for the first time.

In February of 2019, Maria introduced me to the on-line network of Biz Catalyst 360. I have been invited to contribute some articles there and have already been featured thanks to Maria’s article entitled: What can you learn from a STEM specialist pursuing a creative path?

These opportunities are not accidental. I disagree with people who think others have more luck than them. I make my own luck. Luck comes while I am busy preparing for its arrival.

Developing Authenticity

Developing authenticity is not an accident either, it takes time and effort. The path towards authenticity is as unique as each person who seeks it. I simply wanted to express myself better as a singer and as a result of following that path, I realised I needed to change how I used my mind, my behaviours and my whole self.

I was a teacher at the start of this journey, my subjects were Maths and Science. Now I write books, I exhibit my artwork, I sing & I help people who want more authenticity & wellness to achieve happiness and success. My teaching ability is still in-tact; it has just taken a different focus.

Are You Ready to Rise with Authenticity?

While practicing as a holistic therapist many of my clients were professionals and business people. Some wanted to start their own business, others wanted to change career. Often these transitions can be stressful with a lot of uncertainty too. I found myself helping these clients by sharing my own experience of having travelled those paths, I knew what they were experiencing and could share strategies for maintaining, clarity and calm. Having an insight into the world of starting your own business has also been an advantage to my clients. This is how my Authentic Path coaching and wellness courses have come about.

Authentic Reflexology in the Algarve 2018

Therapy for mind and body in sunny Algarve

I had a dream in 2018 so I decided to explore a way to make it real. A life in the sun can sound exotic when you’re used to the cold and rain. In previous years, travel brought healing & heightened creativity and my confidence soared after every exploration. My journey in Peru is one example, when I lived in a small town in the Sacred Valley near Machu Picchu. The lessons I’ve learned through travel have served me in business and life.

Luckily, Portugal’s Algarve is closer to home, with regular flight options and it’s even in the same time zone as Ireland. I imagined the people who could benefit from my relaxing therapeutic reflexology treatments and coaching programmes while being surrounded by the beauty of the sunny Algarve.

The Algarve Village on Facebook - VISIT US

Authentic Reflexology in the Algarve

I found a therapy room in Carvoeiro, a picturesque fishing village with a pretty beach. It’s a tranquil place offering good food, gorgeous sunsets, morning walks along cliff tops, boat trips to solitary beaches and caves and ambient street festival entertainment to pass the night, Carvoeiro had it all.

It was an exciting time, travelling to a new country, making new connections and making new opportunities. Such a different life than the one I was living prior to 1999 when I worked as a maths and science teacher burning myself and not paying attention to my wellbeing. I’ve written lots of stories about my Authentic Path because I want more people to see that life can be so much more when you step out of your comfort zone and confront your fears.

The Algarve was my home for a very short while and I got a taste of what it is like to live there. Life has changed since the coronavirus pandemic that swept the world. I will definitely return the Algarve it’s not far from home.

I provide personalised reflexology treatment plans and coaching services to people who dare to be authentic and want to make their dreams a reality. The best guides are the ones who have walked the path, academic knowledge doesn’t come close to lived experience. Let me help you on your Authentic Path. Wexford Hour - Thanks for your support!

Good fortune is something we can attract by our own good deeds and earnest work. Some experiences however, impress upon us the importance of never taking our good fortune for granted. Thats why I feel gratitude is so important. Today I express gratitude for some of the very supportive networks that surround me off-line and on-line and one that deserves a big mention is WEXFORD HOUR!

#WEXFORDHOUR

For those of you who don’t use Twitter, Wexford Hour is an account on twitter which aims to promote businesses (many based in Wexford, Ireland) through weekly twitter chats.

The hash-tag #wexfordhour is used so that participants can follow the conversation, as we tell each other about our latest product or service or discuss how our business is going, having some fun and checking in on each other.

It’s especially good if you work by yourself, as I do quite a bit, it feels like you have some company along the way. We get a better sense of knowing each other through our weekly twitter chats. Sometimes a few of us even meet up in person,  that’s especially nice and strengthens the regard we have for each other.

Wexford Hour is currently hosted by Deirdre Ni Dhubhghaill of 2D Graphic Design @2DGraphicDesign.

@WexfordHour twitter chat takes place on Tuesday nights 9pm to 10pm (GMT) and they provide opportunity for you to promote your business.

Be Authentic! My article in Womans Way Magazine

Huge thanks to Woman’s Way Magazine for granting me my first paid writer’s commission!

This is my published article which tells you why I am passionate about encouraging people to BE AUTHTENTIC!

"Have you ever told someone you love to ‘just be yourself’? Maybe you were trying to help an adult or a child to be at ease in a situation they were anxious about, like starting a new school or job.

When I was growing up, there were times when I wished someone could have handed an instruction book on ‘How to be Yourself’! Looking back, I realise it had a lot to do with understanding the world around me and getting to grips with how I could play my part, with an optimistic outlook.

But for many years I didn’t have this insight, I was plodding along, ignoring signs that all was not well. Eventually stress, anxiety and tension led to distress and emotional turmoil. I was forced to stop and examine how I had ended up in this situation. I call it my moment of ‘Break True’, it is also the title of one of my subsequent paintings.

The year was 1999. I left a teaching career in the countryside and headed to the city to find employment that would allow me the space and time to change my ways. I have never regretted this decision.

It was a time when access to online information was not as apparent and our society was still coy about addressing self-care and mental health awareness. The idea of someone ‘following their dreams’ would have seemed ‘whimsical’ to many. I quietly got on with my studies in the arts and at the same time developed a curiosity in the area of healing.

Here I was finally, discovering the instruction book I craved as a teenager. I call it my ‘Authentic Path’ and for my current work as a visual artist, writer and reflexology therapist, I use the tag-line ‘Inspiring your Authentic Path’ as my goal.

I want to share with you what being authentic means to me and why I believe it’s important for our wellbeing and happiness. I used to be full of anxiety, lacking in assertiveness, with unhelpful negative beliefs. I was no stranger to mental anguish and physical pain from time to time. I was spending my valuable energy hiding my true nature and gifts from everyone, including myself.

Finding my purpose had a huge part to play in my recovery from this ‘lack-lustre’ way of living. I sought out the best teachers, mentors, holistic therapists and business professionals to help me on my way. I discovered that putting my heart and soul into what truly ignites my spirit, led me to feeling stronger in myself. I was more motivated and willing to learn.

Over time, my physical pain was eliminated completely, I worked on developing a more positive attitude, suspending judgement and letting go of tension. I took courses to help me to become more assertive and to learn how to deal better with conflict. I moved my body through yoga and dance and I learned how to practice self-care and healing.

Overall I became more grounded, confident and capable, not because I faked it, but because I spent time acquiring knowledge in the topics that are essential to my work. When you learn from sources that can trace their origins more assuredly this too leads to a more authenticity in all you do.

In recent years the word ‘authentic’ has become a buzz word, as marketing and sales professionals realise that customers respond better to something that has a more ‘authentic’ feel about it. It’s nothing new, but when a thing is repeated over and over, we tend to pay less attention. That’s why I believe it is more important to inspire authenticity by our presence and actions.

Every person has something very special and unique to offer to the world. By being more present and exhibiting the best of ourselves we can have a very positive effect on others. Give yourself a moment to think about this in relation to your own life.

Today is the best day to make a start on your ‘Authentic Path’. We are all capable of learning and adjusting. Nobody can tell you who is the real you, that part is yours to discover more fully but you can seek inspiration and support on that journey.

I am aware that self-expression can be dangerous in some situations where people are bound by rules of their society or cultural beliefs. It takes courage to ‘Break True’. There are people far more courageous and inspiring than me but I do what I can in this moment in time and if one person can be inspired by my actions then that’s a fantastic result.

I help people to make their lives amazing by guiding them on their paths to authenticity, wellbeing and success. If you seek a more meaningful life take action by choosing from my range of books, and courses and coaching programmes.
